This week we were delighted to meet with our newly signed ambassadors for Milton Keynes Hospital Charity.
Claire, Aiden and Christiana have been supporting the hospital’s charity in different ways for almost two years now, and it was our pleasure to ask them to come on board and represent us more formally. As ambassadors, the trio will be sharing their experiences (from the perspective of patient, relative and staff member) as well as supporting the charity by speaking and volunteering at events and activities we run to raise funds.
Aiden and Claire became involved after Aiden was diagnosed with cancer. The couple have supported us with fundraising, which has funded several items including plants and furniture in the cancer centre gardens, as well as a breast seed machine to support people undergoing diagnosis of breast cancer. Aiden said: “Having experienced the traumatic diagnosis as a cancer patient and going through rounds of chemotherapy, transplant and Car T Cell therapy I want to give back and share my experience and spread hope and positivity in the most challenging circumstances anyone can experience.”
Claire said: “Life is so precious because it’s short and as an adult it’s my responsibility to help others and during the past 3 years of my husband to be undergoing extensive treatment I have realised that even more. So now is my time to do that…”
Christiana Oke, who works in the MKUH Trauma and Orthopaedics team, said: “From an event planner background, I already have the pleasure of making my clients’ day a fabulous day and I enjoy seeing the satisfaction on their faces. So, I would like to bring this into the hospital, as a hospital ambassador. It would be my satisfaction to be able to help others for such an important cause.”
