Des’ Hospital Hike

Let us introduce Desmond ‘Des’ Glasspool. He works in the Estates team here at Milton Keynes University Hospital (MKUH). The MKUH Cardiology department saved his life and now, just one year on, he’s decided to do something incredible—to give back to the department and the Cancer Centre.

On Friday 27 September 2024, Des will embark on his own Hospital Hike Challenge in support of Milton Keynes Hospital Charity.

Joined by our team and #TeamMKUH staff, Des will be walking an impressive 13 miles around the hospital site, all in the name of helping patients, families, and colleagues at MKUH. We’re hoping for pleasant weather and a rewarding journey for Des, knowing each step he takes will make a meaningful difference for our community.

Des shared:

I want to say thank you to the Cardiology department at MKUH for saving my life when I had a heart attack at work. I first thought I was suffering from indigestion but Cardiology advised that it was a heart attack and transferred me to A&E. I’ve been back at work for over a year now and have decided to take on a walking half-marathon around the hospital site. I shall be walking 13 miles—which is 9 times around the redway that surrounds MKUH—to raise funds for both Cardiology and the Cancer Centre. I would be very grateful if you could sponsor me and/or join me on my walk.

We’ll update this page with photos from the day and keep everyone posted on Des’ fundraising progress!
