The Milton Keynes Lightning Ice Hockey team, also known as MKL, have once again supported Milton Keynes Hospital Charity through their annual ‘Air the Bear’ event, bringing joy to young patients facing tough times.
Air the Bear 🐻
MK Lightning’s annual ‘Air the Bear’ charity initiative sees new and safely wrapped teddy bears thrown by fans onto the ice as soon as the home team score their first goal.
This year, ice hockey fans donated an amazing 529 bears (80 more than last year!)
These bears then make a special journey to MKUH where players hand them to young patients staying on the children’s wards, as well as those in the children’s emergency department.
Every year MKL bring so much joy to patients and their families facing hardship, and we can’t thank them enough for their continued support. Their ‘Air the Bear’ initiative has become somewhat of a cherished Christmas tradition for the club and MKUH, and demonstrates the positive impact that sports organisations can have beyond the arena.
