Personal motivations for supporting our charity

Darren
“The care and kindness shown by all was and still is brilliant. From the lady that made tea, the cleaning staff, nurses and obviously Mr Dungawalla – each and every one of the staff are brilliant. Nothing was too much trouble. I’m so very grateful to every one of you.”
Darren raised more than £500 for the Cancer Centre through a sponsored walk to say thank you for the care he received in 2020 after being diagnosed with cancer.
Alijca
“I was able to receive exceptional treatment on the NHS which I will be forever grateful for.”
After being diagnosed with cancer at the age of 35, Alicja completed her treatment and received the all-clear in January 2021. She took on the ‘Couch to 5km’ challenge and ran the Milton Keynes Half Marathon for the Cancer Centre and Breast Care Unit.

The Russell family
“Alfie went into an incubator the moment he was born. Two days in, he stopped breathing and had to be intubated. He had a hole in one of his lungs which had caused it to collapse. It was a horrible time but the staff were out of this world. This is our chance to give something back.”
Neil supported our BabyLeo Incubator appeal in 2020 after his son Alfie was born prematurely.
The Brock family
“As we spent so much time on the Neonatal Unit, we saw firsthand the immense challenges the team faces daily. Yet, every single person on the unit is so dedicated to providing the best care, not only for the babies, but for their families too. It was this sense of support and belonging that made our NNU journey that little bit easier and as such, we wanted to give back and help in some way.”

Matt
Matt was diagnosed with stage 3 bowel cancer in 2023 and received treatment at the cancer centre at MKUH. He completed his 5k running challenge in November 2024 to raise money for the cancer centre where he received treatment, care, and ongoing support from the dedicated teams.
Alice
“If there’s one thing I’d share about Milton Keynes University Hospital’s Cancer Centre, it’s this: it’s not just a hospital – it’s a place filled with compassion, warmth, and hope. The work they do changes lives, and I’m so proud to support them.”
Alice’s cancer diagnosis led her to build her dream career and through her GCSE Maths Revision Programme, she donates 100% of fees to MKUH’s Cancer Centre fund.
