Matt’s Story
A true inspiration
Matt was diagnosed with stage 3 bowel cancer in 2023 and received treatment at our cancer centre at MKUH. He completed his 5k running challenge in November 2024, dressed as Macho Man Randy Savage, to raise money for the cancer centre where he received treatment, care, and ongoing support from the dedicated teams. Matt popped back to present a cheque for £3412.00, to lead cancer nurse Michelle. Thank you Matt, you are a true inspiration.
I spent six months at the cancer centre receiving chemotherapy following my stage 3 bowel cancer surgery. My treatment was harsh, and even eight months later, I am still experiencing neuropathy.
I faced many emotional challenges during chemotherapy, but I was always greeted with smiles and positive energy throughout the centre. The nurses were truly angels, offering hope and positivity; even observing them was inspiring. This is why I wanted to give back for all the kindness I received.
Also, for myself and others, I want to demonstrate that there is direction and no limits after chemotherapy; it’s only short time pain for long term gain. It’s just simply a matter of reaching that point of saying—I can do this. I’m thankful for my family, friends, and work, who all made this wonderful total possible.
