Milton Keynes University Hospital’s (MKUH) Children’s Emergency Department (ED) team is raising funds for a QV-600 Vein Finder. Can you help support their mission?
What is a QV-600 Vein Finder?
The QV-600 Vein Finder is a portable vein finding device that has various user-defined functions which can adapt to different ages, body shapes, skin colours, weights, and operating environments.
Vein finders make it easier to find veins quickly and accurately, reducing distress for both patients and any family/carers who may be with them. When it comes to paediatric care, children often have smaller and more difficult-to-locate veins, so vein finders are particularly beneficial to help calm the patient and parent too.
How much does it cost?
A vein finder costs just under £3,000.
How can I make a donation towards the vein finder?
If you’d like to make a contribution towards the vein finder for Children’s ED, head to our secure online donation page and specify ‘Children’s ED’ in ‘Other ward/department’.
Fundraising so far…
The Children’s ED team will never shy away from fundraising. In fact, they’re quite the experts at it, and have raised incredible amounts for Milton Keynes Hospital Charity over the years! From sponsored walks to carnival floats—you name it, they’ve been involved.
Most recently they hosted a spooktacular bake sale in Main Entrance at MKUH, which raised a fantastic £427.83 towards the vein finder. As part of the bake sale, they organised a raffle to win an impressive Halloween-themed cake, lovingly designed and created by MKUH’s Clinical Placement Facilitator, Dawn Collis.
They kept the momentum going with a festive bake sale in December!
Real patient stories
When we shared an update about the team’s vein finder bake sale on the Milton Keynes Hospital Charity Facebook page, within just a few hours, Hannah Jordan made an online donation and kindly shared her reason why.
Hannah shared: “My little one had an ambulance ride recently on Sunday evening, which landed us in the Children’s ED.
The ambulance staff and team in the department were quick, kind and caring. I can’t thank them enough!”
She continued:
More reasons behind my donation and choosing children’s ED…
Two years ago, my daughter unfortunately had Sepsis at just 6 weeks old. In the rush to get her the lifesaving treatment she needed, I stood back and watched as the nurses and doctors at MKUH children’s ED struggled to find any veins because my daughter was so dehydrated.
Multiple staff members were trying their hardest to find a vein they could work with, but it took a while and caused a lot of distress for my baby—still, I knew it needed to be done to save her from getting even more poorly. It was a hard and emotional time.
When I saw a post on social media from Milton Keynes Hospital Charity about raising funds for a QV-600 Vein Finder, it hit close to home. I knew my daughter wasn’t the only one who had likely faced the difficulty of finding her veins. Having the vein finder could save a lot of time and stress on patients and staff at the hospital, it really would make a huge difference.
A massive thank you to all the staff at MKUH and the hospital charity for putting information out on social media.
Thank you, Hannah, not only for your generous donation but also for sharing your story and highlighting the importance of this vital piece of medical equipment for MKUH’s Children’s ED.
